Crump is set to release his debut solo album ‘Highway Companion’ on November 8, 2024. This will be an 8-track acoustic album which includes his singles ‘Wolf’s At The Door’, ‘Highway Companion’ and soon to be released ‘Without Your Love’ on October 18th.
We sat down with Crump and asked him a few questions regarding his album:
Why did you choose to do an acoustic album?
“Well, I didn’t have a band at the time and I wasn’t going to have all these fake instrument sounds that computers can make nowadays, I wanted it to be real. A wise man said if you can’t just pick up a guitar and sing it, it ain’t worth singing.”
What can we expect from the songs on this album?
“There’s a love song or two, some heartbreak, a worship song, a ballad, it’s a good mix. People make records today in ‘radio’ country music and it’s all the same song 15 times and it gets old after about 10 seconds. I think it’s good when you keep the audience wondering what will be next.”
What was the inspiration for this album?
“I was sitting in my house on wheels in San Antonio recovering from a career ending knee surgery and figured it was time to move to the next thing. I had always wanted to put an album together but was waiting on God’s timing and it was pretty evident that it was time.”
What’s with the 8 tracks instead of the big 15-20 songs you see on some albums today?
“Some of my favorite records are 8 tracks. Boston’s first 2 albums, Skynyrd’s first 3 albums. As a fan hearing only 8 new songs, I take more out of each song then if I had to listen to 12 plus. It just makes each song better in a way and more memorable.”
What’s next after the album comes out?
“We just got a band put together that I’m really excited about. We have a pretty cool name, I think. We’re still voting on it, but it’ll be great. We have our first show November 1st at The Murray Hill Theater in Jacksonville, FL. We hope to see you there.”
